"The Good Life" November Edition Article

You may have seen "The Good Life" Newspaper around town at the restaurants. It is written and published by Leslie Averitt, and is distributed in New Hanover, Brunswick, Duplin, Sampson and Pender counties. She will be expanding soon to Johnston & Wake Counties in NC as well as Horry and Georgetown counties in SC. Leslie includes uplifting articles, and insights, as well as informative pieces. She has enjoyed her trips to Wallace to deliver the paper so much so that it led her to write an article about our town.

Early Christmas Shopping
in Wallace, NC
On November 18th from 4-8:00pm downtown Wallace will hold their annual “Twilight at Christmas” festival sponsored by the Wallace Chamber of Commerce. Plenty of parking and streets blocked off for a leisurely walk, looking for that special Christmas gift!
But you can take any day to visit Wallace, NC. I’ve found the folks there to be some of the nicest, most friendly people I see while delivering my paper every month. Wallace has old-timey charm and a way of making you feel you've gone back to a more genteel time. Lots of Southern Hospitality! Take the 390 exit into Wallace and travel down #117 until you come to the McDonalds on the left; turn at that light.
Some of the stores you'll see are The Treasure House with Jewelry, coins & neat collectibles. Divine Fashions along with their beautiful upholstery work& custom draperies has a selection of wedding and evening gown consignments. Babycakes sells children’s clothing and One Peacock Place Lmtd. sells antiques on Railroad St. There are three furniture stores and Johnson’s Furniture delivers to Wilmington.
Main Street Revival Resale and Consignment on Main St. is now open with furniture, home accessories and some clothing. Lillies Style Shop has some beautiful lady’s special occasion & church clothes. (Girls, I found a beautiful cape there last year!)
Continuing along you'll come to the Wallace Drug Co. Thereyou'll find some of the cutest, most unusual gifts and Christmas items. They have tiny “sock monkey” Christmas ornaments for your tree!
Would you like to try a leisurely lunch? Try eating atThe Stone Leaf Café. The Veranda is famous for their wreaths- the bigger the better- and some of the most unusual Christmas items I’ve ever seen plus decorating items, too! And Farrior’s is a home decorator’s dream! Really take some time to look at all they have to offer. Creative Concepts makes t-shirts for reunions and special events.
On the other side of the street is The Mustard Seed ChristianBookstore. Try their famous soups and desserts in The Garden Café. Also, Cavenaugh's Gifts of Distinction. You’ll feel as though you just walked into a store in New York City. So many gorgeous items and the only retailer for Christopher Radko Ornaments between Myrtle Beach and Raleigh.
Inspirations is fairly new with lots of handcrafted jewelry, TrappCandles, bath & body products. She's got a large selection of dolls, Victorian Christmas Ornaments and turn of the century items.
On College St. you’ll find Vera Bradley handbags at The Polka Dot Zebra.
If you just go straight into Wallace on 117(Norwood St) you'll come to Western Sizzlin' Steak House Restaurant on the right. Up a little further is the well known Stockyard Flea Market open Thru & Saturdays. Acrossis the Pizza Hut and beside it is a ministry called Baby Bagg . They sell gently used woman’s and baby items, plus home renovating items such as paint, windows, doors, etc. at GREAT prices. Down a bit on the same side of the street isThe Country Kitchen Restaurant known for their great buffet.
The people in Wallace have worked very hard to make their town special. I know you'll enjoy visiting Wallace & you'll find the same old world charm I've found.

Visiting
WALLACE
Discover Historic Downtown Wallace through the eyes of
the camera and the memories of long time residents.
Welcome to Historic Downtown Wallace. So many people who have lived here
alltheir lives come into the shops here and reminisce about what the shops used
to be when they were growing up...a clothing store here, a soda shop across the
street. You can see them remembering summer festivals and people selling strawberries
along the railroad tracks in their mind’s eye. We are hoping to collect
those memories and old photos from people in the community and document
them online and add a pictorial tour of the historic buildings downtown.
